Visual Journalism/Reportorial Illustration in Detroit
posted: February 8, 2011
The strength of my work has always primarily lied in my observational drawing and conversations that develop in my notebook. In history class I was immediately drawn to the work of Robert Weaver; his concept of the artist as a visual journalist and the movement that developed in the post golden-age era. Recently I've been granted a very exciting opportunity to collaborate on a monthly project that reflects that ideal: http://modeldmedia.com/features/adventuresmodeld111.aspx
I've also recently been hired as an art director at the ad agency Team Detroit that is becoming increasingly and heavily involved in what's happening in the city and consequently where my time, focus and passion has been driven to this past year, but that is a topic of conversation for another time. Although we continuously learn through working and creating I recognize that, after a full year of graduation, I no longer hold the official title as a Student of Illustration. It's been amazing seeing the development of everyones' work and I look forward to witnessing that continuation by routinely checking in on this blog and your personal process blogs as well. Cheers to you all. Best, MB 1 comment |

I did this drawing shortly after finishing A Winter's Tale while sitting on my friend's roof in Brooklyn one afternoon last spring.
